I just want to downgrade…

For the last two weeks I have been trying to downgrade my cable package with absolutely no success. It’s this maze of web, then phone, then web again trail and errors that leave me frustrated and pissed. Trying to downgrade should not be this hard. Every time I think I’m almost there I some how “time out” or the page is suddenly “not available” or I get some bogus “internet explore has failed” message (only proving that the internet monster is somehow in on the scam). So then I decide “I’ll show them,” only to call and be greeted with – “Now you can access and change your account online,” go to http://www.mycablecompanywontletmedowngrade.com

The big decision to downgrade came when I was setting up a budget spreadsheet, once I added up what my extended cable/DVR/on-demand bills came to for a year I was certain a third vacation was being missed because of these bills. It never seems that bad when you think of it as monthly fee, but when you times that number by 12 believe me you will rethink your way of living. IF you can ever downgrade your stupid cable.

It’s like my cable company is a living, breathing homage to the Eagle’s song Hotel California because like the guest at that hotel, I seem to be able to check-out, but I can never leave.

  1. Bummer! And I'd guess the gym has your card on file, too. I hate those tricky groups!J

  2. Oh yes the “we only stop deducting if you call to cancel, not when your contract ends,” scam. That is a good one.
