The Weekend Round-Up

My niece turned two-years-old this weekend and so my days were filled with balloons, birthday cake and kids that seemed to be able to break the sound barrier just by being together. February is a big month for my family. Not only is my niece’s birthday in it, but my two cousins, dad, and my own as well. This also doesn’t include my three friends who share this as their birthday month.

Seeing as my brother and his fiancĂ© also live down the street from my grandparent’s “assisted living center” a trip to depression land was also on the agenda. I hate that place. It’s a lot of older people sitting by the door - waiting with baited breath to see if today will be the day, they get a visitor. My grandparents were no exception, when dad and I pulled up they were in the front window looking out longingly.

This visit seemed to depress me more than the other two. Maybe it’s because my grandpa has to wear a bracelet which bares his name because he’s consider a flight risk or the fact that my grandmother just looks so unkempt. You see grams has always been one of those people who has the old lady hairdo. You know the one I’m talking about here - set with rollers and hairsprayed into a nice teased helmet on the top of the head. I can’t remember her with out that hairdo, so to see her, not only without the ‘do, but also with what seemed like uncombed hair was pretty upsetting.

Either way a good time was followed by a bad time. Such is life,
