The oddest things bring up long forgotten memories

My dad loved this one comic strip by Gary Larson. It was the one that illustrated a dog weaving in and out of a busy highway, trying to cross and joining the other dogs on the opposite side. Once the dog made it across the other dogs say something like “Okay Fido’s in the gang.” I remember this particular Far Side comic only because my dad thought it was the funniest thing ever printed. I can still see him laughing over it in our kitchen with the yellow checked curtains, my brother and I looking on as if our dad was nuts while making metal notes to never “like” the Far Side again, for dad had just made it so uncool.

An odd memory to have pop into my head, sure, but like all random firings of the brain this long dormant memory sprung forth when I got an email, or trigger if you will, this afternoon. You see … Brad, the Kubasaki guy wrote me. And if you follow this silly little blog at all you should recall my mentioning an email from an old classmate regarding our former years as military brats. I don’t know him or the girl who forwarded on my email address to him, but I was bored, not wanting to work and I no longer have a Myspace page to waste internet time on. (Actually I do have a "fake" Myspace page, which I use it to access pictures of my niece – but you don't care about that do ya?)

Back to the point, after getting this email yesterday I got the following response today:

Christy W*** is the latest edition to the email group. Christy left Oki in 90 after arriving in 88. Welcome to the group. If you have anyone you’re looking for let me know and I’ll try to help you find them.

It was the subject line that got me. Christy makes it in … I guess I’m a member and I didn’t have to dodge cars to gain acceptance.
